Utilities

Alameda Municipal Power (AMP)

Undergrounding Utilities

Many utilities service Alameda over wires and cables suspended visibly in the air from utility poles to residences and businesses. Placing these cables underground has been a goal of the City of Alameda since 1984. Undergrounding projects will remove the above ground utility poles and place the wires and cables in conduit underground with utility boxes on the streetside.

For updates on undergrounding projects, see this link.

The project will include determining the best place for undergrounding to a residence or business based upon the unique character of each property.  The project is paid from the 2% tax on all utility payers' monthly bills.  AMP is the lead business coordinating electricity, AT&T phone, and AT&T/Comcast cable TV utility needs.
